The village of Kaya Koy (Karmylassos) near Fethiye is a very nice starting point for several beautiful walks with stunning views.

First of all there is a small easy walk through the old Greek village and a choice to climb up to a lower or a bit more higher chappel. Once you are up the lower chappel you can continue your walk to the cold water spring bay. A nice private little bay where you can see and feel the very cold water coming from a spring mixing with the hot sea water. From this walk the only possible thing is to return by walk back to Kaya Koy. One way takes about 1,5 hour.

Another walk which first leads you throught the Greek village takes you to Oludeniz. You get stunning views over bays and the lagoon. And on a bright clear day you might see Rhodes. 2,5 hours. A nice and easy walk takes you down to Gemiler beach, only 7 kms from the village centre. You follow the road down through the village of Kaya Koy and Kinali, you will get a very good impression about a local village life were people are very friendly. It is a beautiful small pebbly beach, not commercialised, with in front St Nicolas island. A little chat with one of the local fisherman to negociate about the price and they can take you to the island.

There are nice remains on the island. Half way down from this walk you can opt to enter into the forest following the signs of Af Kule, a monastery hanging on a cliff, with again breathtaking views. Fifth walk is from Kaya Koy to Fethiye over the Roman road. There are partly remains of the roman road through a forest, sometimes you have to join into the tarmac road.

Another nice walk to Fethiye is passing by a Crusaders Castle, all through foresty surroundings and beautiful views over several bays and finally 12 islands and Göcek. And for the very experienced walkers the Lycian Way starts in Ovacik near Kaya Koy or Kaya Koyu and goes to Faralya. 5,5 hours.

A good thing is to take an early hour dolmus to Faralya and walk down back to Ovacik. There is more chances to enjoy the views and it is a bit easier. And then there are walks around the valley, all very easy and you can enjoy the local farming life. Every month has its own charm, with always beautiful flowers, green trees and birds like hoopy, rollers, bee eaters, woodpeckers, swifts. An every year returning stork couple breeding in the village. If you are lucky you can also spot an eagle. You can find some info about some walks in the village itself, locals will be happy to point you the way. Happy walking!

The best thing to do in Fethiye is to get a boat and go sailing around the islands.
